Help create a dragon boat street mural with Paintillio

Tap into your inner artist and help paint a giant paint-by-numbers street mural with creative mentors from Paintillio June 17 to 22 at Creekside Community Centre. This free all-ages community art event leads into the three-day Concord Pacific Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival coming up June 23 to 25. Sponsored by Concord Pacific, the event showcases the work of Dragon Boat BC photographer Jeremy Dyson, whose colour-rich images capture the racing spirit of Vancouver’s iconic dragon boat teams.

Jeremy’s photographs of dragon boat teams in action on False Creek will be expanded into 10’ x 10’ (3 m x 3 m) panels and separated into sixteen 30-inch (76 cm) sections with three displayed at a time for the public to help paint. On arriving at Creekside Community Centre, participants will receive a paint jar and brush from Paintillio, which can be picked up from the front desk, and will have a chance to paint three sections of the mural at a time.

Once finished over the weekend, the mural will be installed for display at the Concord Pacific Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival next to a second image by Jeremy that will again be available for participants to paint by numbers with assistance from Paintillio’s in-house artists, Lyssa Kayra and Jessica Devenport.

A new entry into Vancouver’s art scene, Paintillio creates custom paint-by-number paintings turning favourite photos into works of art for friends, families, co-workers, and the community to complete together.

The Paintillio paint-by-numbers event is free for all ages from Saturday, June 17 to Thursday, June 22 at Creekside Community Centre, 1 Athlete’s Way, on False Creek near Science World. For more information, contact Dragon Boat BC at [email protected] or Jessica at Paintillio at [email protected].
