Sport tourism trend grows

Travelling to play or watch sports is a growing trend worldwide. The Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) reports that “Sport tourism is now the fastest growing segment of the tourism industry” worth an estimated $5.2 billion a year in Canada.

As the Dragon Zone Paddling Club’s U18 Eternal Dragon team members get set to pack their paddles for Ontario and France this year, organizers of the Concord Pacific Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival expect to welcome more than 5,000 international paddlers, including 1,500 tourist paddlers, and an estimated 100,000 festival-goers in 2017.

The annual festival injects approximately $5.25 million into the local economy each year.
