Youth and Children Paddling Programs

Building community through paddling dragon boat, kayak and canoe.

Dragon Zone Paddling Club believes that all kids should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of sport. We are proud to support youth activity in sport, regardless of background or ability. Click here to find out more about the Milton K. Wong Legacy Project. Since we started our youth programs, we’ve taken more than 20,000 children and youth out on the water and developed after-school, school-time, and even a youth regatta full of excitement and the fun of competition. We understand the importance and benefits of youths taking part in organized sport and wanted to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn skills that are important, both on the water, and in life as well.

Note:  Waivers must be signed by parent or guardian for youth under 18

Summer Paddling Camps (Ages 8 to 12)

5-Day Summer Paddling Camp (Ages 8 to 12)

Our summer camps are a great summer break activity. Participants will develop confidence in paddling a variety of boats, and learn everything from boat and equipment safety to basic paddling mechanics using Stand-up Paddle Boards (SUPs), dragon boats, sprint canoes and kayaks. It’s a great program for making new friends, and could be the beginning of a new life of fun on the water.

All of our day camp staff are First-Aid certified, and NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) trained. The NCCP training includes ethics and fair coaching skills, as well as how to coach water sports safely. Our staff will create a fun environment where participants will enjoy team building activities on land and on water. With a low coach to paddler ratio, the emphasis of the camp is on fun, water safety, and participation.

Located in the heart of Vancouver, our club is nestled in the peaceful and newly developed Olympic Village neighbourhood. We are on the seawall, just minutes away from the Canada Line, and Skytrain.

Participants are expected to bring their own lunches, snacks, and water bottles. Also hats, sunscreen and swimming-appropriate clothing are highly recommended. All boats, paddles, and life jackets will be provided. If the weather conditions are not safe, then paddling will be replaced by land activities. Drop your kids off starting at 8:30am, and pick them up from 3:30pm to 4:00pm.

Duration: 5 days (Monday to Friday)
Dates: Starting first week of July
* Due to a statutory holiday, the BC Day week will be 4 days (prorated fees)
Time: 8:30 to 3:30 pm
