Pass Approvals for Novice and Nelo Boat Usage

New Passholders (Hody Pass)

  • All non-current or novice OC-1 passholders are required to first successfully complete an OC-1 Huli and Orientation Drill.
  • Following successful completion of the drill and purchase of a pass, they must complete at least 5 supervised sessions with an adult, fully approved, and qualified OC-1 passholder in good standing (passholders must be using Club equipment during time of supervision) or a Club approved familiarization and training program. During this process, their pass will not allow them to book online, and they must email info@dragonboatbc.ca to request slots, indicating as well who their accompanying supervisor is no earlier than 1 week before each requested slot.
  • After completing 5 supervised sessions, they must then schedule via email at info@dragonboatbc.ca a date to complete a multiple choice water safety test covering proper boat usage, as well as providing their supervisor reference for staff to verify paddling ability.
  • Staff will review the request, supervisor reference, paddling history, experience, and test results to advise whether the pass will be fully approved for access to the Hody fleet.
  • After completing this process successfully, passholder passes will be fully activated, and approved passholders will be able to book boats on their own without supervision through the online registration portal.
  • Approval to be a supervisor, or approval to paddle without a supervisor may be rescinded at the discretion of staff due to safety, rule breach, or other conditions. All Club rules apply.

Nelo Pass

  • Existing passholders wishing to have access to the Nelo fleet of boats are required to complete a separate Nelo orientation and huli drill that will be logged in the system to access the boats.
  • The orientation and huli drill is only offered to paddlers with at least 15 unsupervised OC-1 sessions in the past 3 months, and a fully approved pass.
  • Nelo access may be rescinded at the discretion of staff due to safety, rule breach, or other conditions. All Club rules apply.

OC-1 Passholders forming an OC-6 Team: Discounted Rate Terms and Conditions

  • A group of OC-1 passholders may apply to form an OC-6 team, and pay a discounted fee for the OC-6 team.
  • OC-1 passholders taking advantage of this benefit may only be on one OC-6 roster. If they wish to be on multiple OC-6 rosters, the second team does not qualify for the discounted rate.
  • OC-6 teams with a specialty rate retain their slots as long as all OC-1 passholders are in good standing. If a team member’s OC-1 pass expires within the OC-6 team’s season, the OC-1 pass must be renewed and fully paid prior to booking OC-6 slots. Alternatively, the OC-6 team’s season will end at the same time the OC-1 pass expires (i.e. if an OC-1 pass expires February 28, the OC-6 team’s slots will also end on February 28, or the OC-1 pass must be extended if the OC-6 team wishes to paddle for a longer period of time).
  • If an OC-6 team’s season ends, and the OC-6 team wishes to extend their season, the fee will have to be paid again (i.e. a team’s registration end March 30, and the team wishes to restart on April 15).
  • OC-6 teams formed with a specialty rate must regularly use their slot, as solely determined by the club. Failure to do so may lead to termination of their reserved slot(s) for the remainder of the season/term, without refund.

5% GST will be added to all passes. Full terms and conditions on registration site.
