• Led by: Veteran steerspeople with extensive local/international competition experience.
• Prerequisites: Basic understanding of dragon boat racing.

Learn to steer a dragon boat during our interactive steering clinic. Led by veteran steerspeople with extensive competition experience, this 4-hour program will help you learn the basics of steering or refresh your skills for the next level. After taking this program, you will begin to be able to steer your team during practices while under the guidance of another experienced steersperson on the team, and be aware of the basics of steering technique, general water safety, and the role of the steersperson on the water.

NOTE: Participants will be required to paddle during the course’s interactive portion to give each participant some time feeling the boat while in motion. Please note that this course is not meant to teach participants how to paddle. Covers water navigational rules, safety tips, steering terminology, basic steering techniques. Recommended for new or novice steerspeople. No prerequisites required. Steering quiz administered at end of clinic. This is NOT an accreditation clinic.

Program includes session with instructor, access to equipment including a PFD and paddle, and access to course materials. Groups of 12 or more may request a private session; please email info@dragonboatbc.ca for additional assistance.
